    Unchanging and Changing

As we begin a new year, many of us have in mind things about ourselves that we would like to change in 2017. While considering those, it is comforting to know that we can rely on the unchanging God.

    Just a Moment
    Series: Misc
One moment would change the course of history and reverse the numbers on our calendars. Jesus did not enter the world with the fanfare we might expect, but that does not change the significance of that one moment when God came into the world as a baby.

    Who Is Jesus?
    Series: Misc
As we begin the Christmas season, we will look at how scripture describes Jesus and how so many people around Him were looking for the wrong thing. It is His character rather than His physical characteristics that make Him the perfect Messiah.

    Series: I Will
Our series concludes by asking the question, "Could you be the answer to the problems you see?" Sometimes in the midst of the need for a reset, we forget that each of us has the potential to make a real difference in the mission of the church. Each of us can make a real impact.

I Will Not Be a Church Dropout

Why do people leave church? Amazingly it's often for two reasons that are polar opposites. They are doing too much, or they are doing too little. How can we achieve a better balance in our involvement?

    Series: I Will
Jesus told His disciples that it was their job to go into the world and tell His story. As His followers today, it is now our job. In his book,
I Will: Nine Traits of the Outwardly Focused Christian
, Thom Rainer indicates four main reasons that people shy away from this task.
    • This is not my spiritual gift.
    • This is what we pay our preacher to do.
    • I don’t have time.
    • I don’t want to impose my beliefs on others.
We will discuss these objections and how to take steps to overcome them and fulfill the mission of Jesus to spread the gospel into all the world.

I Will Grow Together with Others
    Series: I Will
In Acts 2 we get some insight into how the early church worked. They spent time together in both large and small group settings. Christianity is intended to be lived out among other believers, but that one meeting each Sunday staring at the backs of the heads of others is not enough. We must be more connected with others in the church to grow the way God intends.

In John 4:24 we read, "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth." We want to truly worship God, yet so many times we get caught up in our differences. This week we will consider setting aside our personal preferences to better worship with others.

I Will Move from “I Am” to “I Will.”
    Series: I Will
This week we begin a new series based on the book, I Will: Nine Traits of the Outwardly Focused Christian, by Thom Rainer. Last year, we looked at Rainer's book, I Am a Church Member. That book challenged us to consider our attitudes when it comes to the local church. This book takes the next step. Once we have our attitudes right, what will it cause us to do in the church?

The Rich Man and the Beggar
Too late. Those words can be so frustrating. God wants desperately for those words not to apply to our spiritual lives. He warns us again and again to be ready. He tries throughout scripture to bring His people into a closer relationship with Him. In this parable, Jesus tells us what can happen if we ignore that warning. Don't wait; get ready!

As Christians, we sometimes know the right answers and say the right things. One of the sons in this parable is a lot like that. As Jesus points out, the right answers do not count for much if our actions do not match up.
